One of the "holy grails" for familiar connoisseurs (stop snickering, you know who you are) has been a familiar that acts as both a Volleyball AND a Gravy Fairy. The idea was widely dismissed as too unbalanced since the game's beginnings, but in August 2005, the game's creators took a gamble and released an Item of the Month familiar -- this one, yes -- that did exactly that. The downside is that in order to activate both abilities, the familiar has to steal some of your MP at the end of combat.

This was viewed as an acceptable tradeoff by KoL's legions of power gamers, who eventually declared this to be THE hot familiar for speed ascensions. It's hard to keep it fed, but when you make it work, you'll leave vapor trails in your wake.
